On the 30th May 2022 a seminar for the GiFluid project ‘Green Infrastructures to mitigate flood risks in Urban and suburban areas and to improve the quality of rainwater discharges’ will be organized. The seminar will be held at Aula Magna of the Bioscientific Center in Via S. Sofia 100 Catania. Participation is free and is reserved for a maximum number of 200 participants according to the order of registration.
The GiFluid was launched last December. The 30-month project has a €2 million budget that will be implemented in Malta and Sicily. This project is being financed by the programme Interreg Italia – Malta, in conjunction with the Energy and Water Agency, Rabat Local Council together with the University of Catania, the Region Council of Sicily and Aci Castello.
Through the GiFluid, the Rabat local council will be allocated a sum of €1 million to introduce a community space. St Dominic’s square will be turned into a recreational space. The infrastructure in the area will be upgraded and will see the introduction of a reservoir to conserve the water runoff in the area. The project will also see the introduction of another green roof at ‘Għajn the National Centre for Water Conservation’.
For the past four years the centre has served as an educational hub. Many students and children learnt about the importance and benefits of conserving water, especially in a semi-arid country such as Malta.
