Energy and Water Sustainability Award Winners announced

James Caterers Ltd. with their 'Sustainability from Inception Project' have been announced winners of the 2nd edition of the Energy and Water Sustainability Award. The winners for this award were announced during the Malta Engineering Excellence Awards 2021, organised by the Chamber of Engineers and the Energy and Water Agency under the distinguished patronage of the President of Malta.

The runners up for this award were Palumbo Shipyard Ltd with their 'Power Factor Correction Project' and Mizzi Estates Ltd. with their 'Pangea Offices Project'.

Through their winning project, James Caterers Ltd. have invested in a new eco-friendly operating site in Bulebel. Amongst a number of sustainable measures, the company has invested in two reservoirs located under the facility and the car park respectively, to potentially harvest 2,800 cubic metres of rainwater, which is treated and used on a daily basis for flushing systems and in their inhouse carwash for their fleet. Savings resulting from the use of this greywater have been invested in further staff training. A building management system within the building monitors energy consumption to provide energy management tools and implementation of energy saving measures such as water reuse, heat exchange use, building insulation between the floors and externally, invertor technology, motion detection lights, amongst other initiatives. The actual energy savings of the company for the year 2020 are 34.2% from renewable sources of energy and 34.5% savings from additional energy saving measures.

The winner of this award will get a training sponsorship for its company of โ‚ฌ4,000, whilst all the nominees will participate in a tree planting ceremony to commemorate this edition of the Energy and Water Sustainability Award.
