The Energy & Water Agency within the Ministry for Energy and Water Management, has been steadily working on the progress of the Malta-Italy gas pipeline interconnection project. The project will connect Malta to the Trans-European Gas Network through a natural gas pipeline, supplying Natural Gas to Malta for the generation of electricity and for the Maltese markets.
Following the launch of the permitting procedure both in Malta and Italy at the end of last year and the completion of the first public consultation period in May 2018, the next phase was the publication of a number of tenders in order to conduct detailed studies required for the obtainment of the necessary permits. The first tender was issued in June with the scope of appointing a contractor who shall carry out the marine survey on the offshore route. Another two tenders were issued at the end of June, for carrying out the environmental and engineering design studies, respectively. These calls can be accessed through the Government Electronic Tendering Portal (e-PPS)
All studies carried out will be co-financed with a 50% rate under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF).
