Calls for Tenders issued for a Marine Survey and EIA studies for the Malta-Italy Gas Pipeline Project

en_horizontal_cef_logo_2

The Energy & Water Agency within the Ministry for Energy and Water Management, has been steadily working on the progress of the Malta-Italy gas pipeline interconnection project. The project will connect Malta to the Trans-European Gas Network through a natural gas pipeline, supplying Natural Gas to Malta for the generation of electricity and for the Maltese markets.

Following the launch of the permitting procedure both in Malta and Italy at the end of last year and the completion of the first public consultation period in May 2018, the next phase was the publication of a number of tenders in order to conduct detailed studies required for the obtainment of the necessary permits. The first tender was issued in June with the scope of appointing a contractor who shall carry out the marine survey on the offshore route. Another two tenders were issued at the end of June, for carrying out the environmental and engineering design studies, respectively. These calls can be accessed through the Government Electronic Tendering Portal (e-PPS)

  • CT3110/2018 – A call for tenders to undertake a preliminary marine route survey of the offshore route between Delimara, Malta and Gela, Sicily. Closing date: 26th July 2018
  • CT3109/2018 – A call for tenders which addresses the Environmental Impact Assessment studies to be carried out in both Malta and Italy, necessary to obtain development permits in both countries. Closing date: 9th August 2018
  • CT3108/2018 – A call for tenders to conduct the front-end engineering design (FEED) studies. This will be followed by the preparation of the documentation for a call for tenders for the construction of the gas pipeline project. Closing date: 9th August 2018

All studies carried out will be co-financed with a 50% rate under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF).
